There wasn't even a barnyard animal involved. Weak.....

My name is Mark, and I fucked up. If you want to know how to make your GRiSO sound like a dozen cheese graters fornicating in an echo chamber, accompanied by a buzz saw on heat, I'm your man.

It wasn't that pesky telescope again, was it?

There might of been a telescope involved somewhere but it was more length than girth involved.....
More refractor than reflector....

Okay, grab a beer and pull up a chair. This sounds like it may get interesting. Should I pop some corn?

The only optics involved was the Borescope poked into every conceivable orifice the GRiSO has, confirming that a man who puts something into a hole without considering the consequences, should fully expect the collateral damage that results. Plus the shrieking and hollering.

mate once left a piece of cloth inside the casing on a 864 duck. it was stopping foreign objects from entering whilst the barrels were off...
His Minister for Fun said it has to go.
I purchased that duck for his new engine cost...

Sigh. Alright, this is what Mr Whenitouchshitifuckitup did.
You may recall maybe two or so days ago, I posted in the "What did you do" thread that I had refitted my highway pegs? Chris & Moby wanted to see pics, and when I went out to take pics, I had an idea to "improve" them. That was my undoing....
OK, highway pegs V1. For the left peg, I used the M12 threaded hole in the crank case. For the right peg, I used the M12 threaded hole in the gearbox. These are the holes that I believe are used in Norge/Sport/Stelvio for the centre stand. Anyhoo, I digress.
V1.
Left. This is the only pic I had. It was prior to replacing the headers. It's fixed via a M12 x 35mm Allen head cap screw.
They are a higher than the main pegs, and were really only for me to be able to increase my knee angle for short periods.
When I replaced the headers, due to the new replacements having different bend angles and lengths, I left the highway pegs off. There wasn't enough clearance to the left header for the Allen head screw. After I had replaced the gearbox with the new customer ratio box, I decided I wanted to put the highway pegs back on, but lower so that They were more comfortable. To accomplish this, I had to use a flat head M12 screw to fit between the header pipe and crankcase. The only ones I had were 75mm long. Without any concerns, I affixed the V2 pegs. The same mounting holes were used. Left used the one in the crankcase, and right used the one in the gearbox. I made a shorter bracket for the right side.
Left. As you can see, this will only work with the Arrow headers and midpipe.
So, yesterday I decided to go for ride. I starts the engine, and I'm subjected a cacophony of horrors. A rattling screech and hammerfest assaults my ears. Mrs beetle runs from the house fearing I fallen over and was sliding down the driveway. Small children nearby fled in tears. The dog started howling.
Hit kill switch. Call Pete. A long checklist was agreed upon. I popped the valve covers and pulled the spark plugs. Nothing amiss in the heads. Plugs look OK. I remove the exhaust and injectors. I get my borescope and look inside cylinders. I see the tops of the pistons. Nothing amiss. I peer into the exhaust ports. Both cylinders have two complete exhaust valves. I peer into injector hole with the scope. Both inlet ports have 2 complete valves each. I attempt to turn crank by hand. Uh-oh! Not move. Locked solid. Gulp! I fret for a few minutes and get a breaker bar, and managed to get it to move, but it will only go 180 degrees, then stops. I can't do a full crank turn. I move the crank through its limited range of motion, and observe the cam chains moving, and the inlet valves go up and down as I move the crank back and forward. Second consult with Pete. Next steps discussed,
I drop the sump. Nothing falls out. I peer up and look at the underside of the pistons. They both move up and down with the limited range of motion I'm allowed. Both rods still have bolts. Third consultation. Time to think about pulling the gearbox. I pop the starter motor off, and peer into the abyss..then insert scope. Gulp! Much metal shavings observed. 4th consult. Maybe the clutch has disintegrated? Gearbox definitely has to come off. Check the ring gear, too.
I set about getting ready, and peer into the hole with a torch (flashlight to our 'Murican readers), while I move the crank to see what I can see. Oh boy. I saw.
D'oh! You stupid moron! That 75mm long screw holding the left highway peg on is hitting the clutch or the flywheel, or whatever the fuck!. Stupid stupid stupid stupid!
And, that, is what not to do. Don't screw anything longer than 30mm into that hole. It's all back together now, including the highway pegs (I cut that screw down). It's starts and runs without any cheese grater sounds.
