Ouch! OooH Ow

When I first got my GRiSO because of the gear shift being not dissimilar to a harley ie very clunky in low revs.
That and my footware being less than substantial in the upper shifting area.
Found the gear shifter bruised my big toe bone.
I also found the tiny (same as gear shifter) brake pedal to be a bit on the small side.
Harleys have decent rubber bits for shifting and a plethora of options to change it.

To say they are very comfy and serve their purpose is an understatment.
They are internally ribbed and just push on, wear on them for last few months seems to be minor.

A simple cure for your simple problem. Well done.
