I can't remember having any problems getting an Allen key in from behind but if that is my failing memory it's only four bolts to drop the side plate off.

Mine fell completely off, on my Breva 1100. Away from home, somewhere close to Roturua.

Hell of a job to get it back on, and tightening that allen key bolt was impossible with the tools I had with the bike. Just had to nurse it home, occasionally pulling over and pushing the lever back on as best I could.

No way you can get an allen key/bit there unless you cut it short. Only way to do it was to remove the side panel which was not too bad - 5 bolts and nuts to loosen with a 6mm allen
