I know. Are you crazy?! An oil thread!!
Hear me out. The manual calls for 10w60, which as motorcycle lubricants go, isn't as common. I don't know the specific specs or additives Guzzi requires.
But hear me out. Which oil do you like that isn't 10w60? Or is that lunacy to fun something other than 10w60?
Personally, I've long run Motul in my Italian twins and V4s to great success. And those that wrench on these Italian beasts also love Motul. Is Motul, Castrol, Repsol, and LiquiMoly the predominant options? Do you like other viscosities? If so, what?

Keep using Motul, they make a 10/60. They(Guzzi) specify this for the heat shedding properties for oil cooling.
I put in whatever the owner want's. None of my own Guzzi's are new enough for 10/60 or Syn oil. I use 20/50 Dino.
It ain't the oil but when you change it, mine is 2000mi & filter at 10K. 4 of my 7 don't even have a filter.
When you get done changing oil, take a big SNIFF of it, vegetable oil smells different than petroleum. An oil thread.

What Steve said. Accept no substitutes. Keep using 10w-60. I don't like any other oil.

I've never used anything except Motul 10w60 full synth in both my GRiSO and Stelvio. It is easily available for online purchase anywhere in the USofA. That being said, if I had another brand of full synthetic 10w60 oil available to me locally at a lower price than the Motul, I would not hesitate to buy and use it.
I just wouldn't waver from either 10w60 or full synthetic.

Ahh, good. I saw that AF! Racing sells that as part of a selection of kits. Good to know that it's available as a backup. I think I'll stick with Motul... for now.

Don't overlook Maxima Triple Ester 10-60 I Drained the Motul 7100 out and ran what I like best..It's had Motorex 10-60, and 7100 in this bike from the old owner up to 5400 miles. All three are top tier stuff, but I liked the Maxima overall the best.. Air cooled Monster 1100, and Aprilia V-2.

Usually run motul but it became difficult to find with the ‘rona. Using supercar as above. More avail and a little less on the wallet. No complaints, works good. Would use again

The engineer who performed the oil tests for Guzzi says Motul 8100 10w60 is the best oil for our engines. Mobil 1 is also a good choice

Apart from using a synthetic to cope with the flash-heating I'm of the opinion that you could use just about any viscosity you like. The thermal carriage factor/difference between a 10/60 and a 5/40 is minimal, they will both wedge effectively where they need to.
I use a 10/60 because it's what is recommended and I have an account with Penrite who make good lubricants and are Australian but really I wouldn't die in a ditch over it.....

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it.
I opted for full synthetic Motul as it was easily available on Amazon. I couldn't find it at any local moto shops. I'll keep the Castrol in the back pocket in the case I need something much quicker.

Fortunately it appears almost impossible to pick a "bad" or wrong 10W60, with a spread like that you're almost guaranteed a synthetic/blend meeting the requirements (it's good to check of course).
Though it's fun to split hairs.

Good info, thanks!
Here's the marketing brief for 8100 10W60.
My small shop is a Motul distributor, I pour a ton of 8100 meeting the needed MB approvals. Looks like I have a new oil for when my supply of Silkolene is exhausted.
Or do I dump that shite now and go straight to the 8100...
I agree with Pete about the flash heating, if I had a stash of (for example) 300V or Maxima 15W50 collecting dust, I wouldn't be scared to use it in a pinch, perhaps with a shorter drain interval.
As mentioned above by BrandX, Maxima products are simply OUTSTANDING and often overlooked, probably due to cost unfortunately.
P.S. In the unlikely event any GRiSO owners in my area are reading and need a jug of Motul, Liqui-Moly, or Redline at cost, please hit me up via PM.

I use the Motul 8100 or Liquimoly 10W60 in all but the Convert which gets Brad Penn or Valvoline VR1 20W50.

Getting ready for an oil change, I found myself with 2liters of AGIP on the shelf and no more to be found online. So, is it ok to mix 2liters AGIP with another 1.5liters Motul? Both would be 10W-60.
