Subject: Givi Rear Rack: 5 kg limit - Case weights 5 kg! Sun Aug 30, 2020 2:31 pm
Hello,
I was asking for some advice regarding my trunk on the GRiSO...
the Givi rack has a sticker that says the limit is 5KG max. The aluminum trunk I have weighs about that much. I was wondering how much you all have loaded on a givi rear rack actually... what is too much in actual use???
If the givi trunk is really this weak, I'll definately need some saddle bags... was wondering if you all had any advice on heavy duty saddle bags for the GRiSO.
Thanks, Richard

Try sitting on it. If it holds your weight then you can safely load it over 5kg.

I have the original MG (read Givi) on the back of my Sport. Made up a aluminium checker plate carry rack to go on it. Have had 2 x slabs of beer on it, ridden at 100 kph +, over 60 km without any ill signs. Especially since the beer was still cool and didn't spill a drop.
I'd be tempted by a "little" more than 5 kg.

These K Drive bags I picked up cheaply some years back, used once. Came with brackets for a Kawasaki Vulcan. Phil saw them up on the shelf, found they fit the H&B pannier racks perfectly, so promptly appropriated them for his new GRiSO. Seem to have more usable room than those small H&B bags.

5 kilos? My turgid lady skewer weighs half that... I wouldn't sweat the rack's "rigidity" as much as the peculiar balance swinging around off axis.

It was his first time packing the GRiSO for a long trip. I opine that Phil still needs practice to refine further, but everything fitted on.
