Hi all, My GRiSO has a sump guard, which looks good, but appears to be a pain as it inhibits jacking the bike from under the sump. Remove it! ... I hear you say, and I have, but it bloody needs the LH exhaust header removing first - to give access to the side stand bracketry - which needs loosening to allow the sump guard to drop free. Except then you need to stabilise the bike vertically.... what a bloody palaver. What am I missing here - is this guard standard GRiSO fit, an SE fit, or aftermarket thing? It did make me laugh... the hole for the oil filter is appalling.... I reckon it’s been done with a hacksaw and flat file. I can imagine 16yo Gistepos first day at work; “Hey, you makka de holes in dese guards; any size, but at the backa is best”[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Not a factory fitment. Grisos are by nature naked and glistening!
If you like it? Keep it and deal with the embuggerance.
If you think it awful? Take it off and sell it to someone who thinks their GRiSO needs a turd scoop!

I’ll be honest Pete, I actually quite like this turd scoop, and will prob end up with a hoist in the garage roof - negating the need of jacking the sump.
I note it’s a genuine MotoGuzzi part; which I presume was fitted by the (UK) dealer - it’s gonna need a bit of modification as one of the side-stand bracket bolts has zero clearance to the LH exhaust header.

Looks like it might be a painted 'Bash plate' off an early, non NTX, Stelvio with an 'ole cut in it for filter access. Nasty!

.. yea, Bad Bear it says on the guard.... R..ight. Somehow that looks crap, whereas mine looks , erm, superb . This all said, it’s the only way I’ve ever known my GRiSO, and tbh, the bare / naked sump is growing on me. I still like the rear hugger / fly screen though...[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Hmm, you’ve solved my issue Pete - I’ve been confused in that the guard is an OEM part, and yet isn’t a particularly great fit.... let alone that very DIY filter ‘ole! So... it’s off a different model eh... given that there are copious spacer washers everywhere, and the exhaust header is 0.5mm off the side stand bracketry, methinks it’s now gonna be deleted from my bike. Thanks. All in all rather odd though... because the PO was a fastidious old bastard, and (I’m pretty sure) wouldn’t have accepted a non GRiSO part onto his brand new SE. I’m now left wondering how it got there...perhaps the bike was a demo model?

Gents, (are there any ladies on this forum?) Have decided to delete the non-GRiSO sump guard, primarily because it caused minor bolt fouling on the exhaust... and secondly it meant a jack couldn’t be used under the sump. Anyhoos... There were no end of spacer washers fitted (to facilitate the sump guard fitment), and I’m left wondering whether there should be ANY plain washer between the spacer bolt and the gearbox area which it screws in to. (Highlighted in blue in my pics). I simply ask here because it seems a bit odd tightening the hex (spacer) bolt against the machined gearbox area. While I’m at it... what are the two tapped holes highlighted in red for? (for those wondering the yellow tape is areas I’ve to go back to and tighten / torque properly. The bike looks like some spotted cat right now )

The holes at the bottom - the rearward one is where a centre stand "could" be mounted, as on the Sports/Norges etc but why would you? Cornering clearance will be compromised. The other is used to mount the sump shroud on aforementioned models.
The factory does whatever it needs to ensure a coat of paint "changes" the look but can serve on other models, as needed.
