Dismantle Front Wings Empty
PostSubject: Dismantle Front Wings   Dismantle Front Wings Icon_minitime1Thu May 14, 2020 3:28 am

Don't know if this has been written up before.

Needed to remove the inner section of the bodywork wings beside the fuel tank.
After some trial and error I have found the best way to remove the metal clips that are used to retain the inner section of the wing, including the metal mesh.

The plastic mounting prongs are fairly robust but can break if you are heavy handed trying to remove the metal retaining clip.
How do I know this, well you've already figured that out, a bit of plastic welding should sort it.
After proding and pushing it dawned on me to use a heat gun to soften the plastic so the metal clip can be dislodged.
While warming the prong and working under the clip with a small bladed screw driver, I was able to dislodge the clips relatively easily but slowly without further damage.

Once done it was easy to separate the the pieces.

When re assembling you can use an 8mm socket to easily knock the securing clip on to the plastic prong to lock the pieces together.

Why do you have a need to do that? Are you painting the bike?

I had to do that when I got my GRiSO vinyl wrapped. Plus I painted the mesh black.

I found the biggest issue was the clips tended to become non-clips after removal. I had to buy a bag of clips to replace them.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
