tail tidy wiring query

Hi hoping someone can advise me. Wiring is not counted in my skill set - infact I remember the time, admittedly in my teens when i tried to fix an old valve radio which was still plugged in then found myself kicked across the room when i touched the frame.

Putting a tail tidy on my 1100. Pic shows  current number plate light next to new light. New unit is LED and has 3 wires not 2 of OE item. Thinking one might be  earth and redundant !

Also wondering how to get block connector apart or try to buy another!

When i was young and dumb I was told think of elektrickery much the same as water flowing through a pipe . Now I can rewire a bike all by myself.
Any way - yes i reckon red / white will feed a light , taillight + brake + black for earth as your new "fitting " may not create its own earth to the frame when bolted up. You can Undo the block connector . If you look from the end the wires go in- you will see the there is a small tab on one side in there that clicks in to hold the metal connector in place. get a very thin jewellers type screw driver - push it in from the wire end to flatten the tab slighty and gently pull the wire end out complete with the "lucar connector" . or buy some compatible new ones - or if you are patient - you could undo the crimp and re use. You can generally get complete new plug kits from auto stores. hope this helps

Ok thanks so red to the yellow slot and white to the blue slot. are you saying that black will need earthing to the frame.

Think will have a go at reusing connectors 1st.

You might want to run some heat-shrink over the new wires Pete - I have plenty at home if you don't have any.

HI Dave Happy new year. Planning on running Darmah up on dyno again to see if compression on back cylinder has improved or if needs attention.
Thanks for the offer but think will try to use old wiring sleeve if can get block off. Zlet you know how goes.
Still unsure if need to earth the black!

Checked with a mate who knows his electrics. Says to earth the black to a clean part of the frame.
