The last of the 8vs had an updated head torque sequence that involves one or two 90 degree turns, but I can't find where I sourced the figures from and can't find where I wrote it down.....anyone know where it can be found? The only online manual I can find has the 11 to 35 ft lbs value....

Thanks!!! Is there a link to that manual anywhere online? Looks like mine is an old version. My bike is (well, was and about to be again) running one of your maps with the Mistral. Nice to buy one with it already installed.

I always stick with the simple 30ft/lbs. nothing has changed in the engine design that would warrant such a change. Nothing ever leaks... ( Shrug.)

I thought the reason was a change in head gasket material??

I have a 2016 (I assuming post rolerized edition) of the GRiSO 1200SE. I would like to check the torques on the head tightening nuts, but I notice the manual has two values: "Engine oil pretightening = 11 lb.ft then Final tightening 31 lb.ft
There is also talk of some sort of rotational 90 degree torque device needed on the forums... I have a standard torque wrench. no good??
See my other reply but yes, two stages. You don't need an RTG
Hello Pete,
Tell me what you think Pete. Now just like Mark's manual mine states +90 +90 torque spec. I in fact used that instruction for my left head after cam box removal. It has never leaked oil and compression seems perfect in cylinder. So is it just so close to your method by chance seated nut torque value will fly? Or should I re torque according to your method? This was done early on in ownership of this machine. And I wasn't aware how imperative it is to use the forum content for more precise information...
The 8V's, (And most of the 2V's.) use laminated steel head gaskets and a non- crushable base gasket, dunno what it's made of. Thing is though that neither ever need re-torqueing because, unlike earlier kingerlite gaskets, they don't collapse as they heat cycle.
Stick 'em om when you build the motor then never touch them again! This is why sudden leaks are so very unlikely to be gasket related.
