| Relocated my earth wires to the R/H gearbox nut the one mid position. Have noticed oil leaking from that area! Should oil be able to come up the hole where the stud comes through?
Just to be safe I checked up under flywheel gap/slit underneath and it's dry as a bone |

| I wiped it clean, wasn’t there before I relocated the earth cables to that bolt and then noticed after a good ride a line of oil sitting across the gearbox from that bolt |

| Cheers I’ll check that, it is above where the fluid was. It did appear to be oily as opposed to gas |

| How full of oil do you keep your engine? Checking the level with the bike upright and the stick resting on the threads?
Is there any oil in your airbox?
Oh, if you want Michael to have a quick look and give a diagnosis he'll be over in NZ on another rollerising mission in early August! He's got two north island rollerisations to do and then will be going south to check on the last one and doa remapon another bike in Timaru. Let him know if you're interested.

| Hi fella's appreciate the help! Things just got a bit weirder....left the bike overnight and checked this morning and it's appeared overnight. Feel's and smell's oily, checked directly above...throttle linkage etc... couldnt see and obvious beads of oil/fuel. Cant be gearbox oil as the level is below that area especially while on its side stand. Thoughts? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Bingo! It’s leaking down the earth wire from up towards the middle of the engine. Just gotta figure out where from |

| It could be posibly the 3-way Union (part 6). [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Mine was in that contition. If you zoom in on the photo you can see a small crack from which I was leaking [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

Those hoses have fuel inside them, not oil... By the way, this 3way connector broke more than 10 years ago, replaced it with a stainless stell one I got from a shop that had gardening stuf, forgot it since... I'm watcing this topic closely, I got oil at this spot for years, mine drips from the RH throttle body thats just above this point [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] | |

| my guess at this stage (will pull it apart over the weekend) is that it's oil mixed with fuel and coming from the throttle body somewhere. I had topped up the engine oil a day prior to this mystery leak which had never appeared before. I suspect I've overfilled and its caused this leak. |

| Well there's a good place to start. Drain some out so it's between half way and the 'Add' mark. Check the airbox drain for oil as well, there may bee a great pool of oil in the box. | |

| Ok, so this really has me scratching my head! The earth wire from the loom appears to have oil (engine oil) running through the inside of the insulation. I have tracked and traced and cannot find where it is coming from. everything is dry and oil free along the frame and under the tank! |

| As Pete said did you pop open the airbox & check for oil in there (2 minutes job ) ?? If there's loads there then it probably is same all down the inlet tracts and probably leaking out the butterfly pivot. If that's OK then check again that there isn't oil coming from breather return anywhere from connection to cam cover all the way to the separator box (and back along smaller pipe to airbox). You haven't explained how you re-routed the earth but pretty much the only sources of oil high up (after heads) are the breather pipes | |

| I know this place very well after having removed my tank and forgot to re-fit the breather hose on the right backside of the tank. This is where gas comes out when the tank is nearly to be overfilled. | |

| That's in the same area, but you won't get any oil out of the fuel tank breather system | |

| Result!
pulled the tank off checked breather box at front and all pipes and wires, everything dry as a bone. Took the inspection plate off the front of the airbag (had checked below air filter for oil) bingo puddle of oil below the intake tubes!
Will re check oil level and remove any excess, this must be the issue. The only remaining puzzle is how and where it's getting out. everything appears dry throttle spindles etc... but there's engine oil coming out that loom earth wire? |
