| Just read this at another topic, didn't want to mess the topic, so, quoting here: - Pete Roper wrote:
Hang on. Are you saying there is oil coming from the throttle body? Perhaps dripping from the butterfly spindle? If so do not even ATTEMPT to start it again. Can you give some more detail? I have alarm bells going off on a dozen levels here..... I've been seeing oil under the spindle of the RH throttle body of my 1100 for years... Not much, forms a droplet from time to time, that falls and (almost) dries out on the engine, that has a stain with no pouring signs. No oil or foam in the airbox, its walls are greasy, never had to add oil in the engine. I was relactant to ask (for troubles), what Pete wrote scared me a bit... So, those "alarm bells" mean that I'm heading to a dissaster? Should I be conscious for other signs? Thanks | |

| On an 1100 you have no worries in regard to damage as seen and evidenced on the 1200’s don’t worry unduly about that, (Of course things can fail on any engine but the 850/1100’s don’t have the tappet issues the 1200’s do.), relax! Most likely cause is that you keep the oil level too high and it’s pumping some into the airbox. It may not be normally enough to pool in the box but if you run the level at the ‘Full’ mark on the stick and keep topping it up if it falls below it and then indulge in ‘Spirited’ riding you’re going to pump some out, no questions. Run the oil half way between the ‘Full’ and the ‘Add’ mark and don’t add any more unless it drops below the ‘Add’ mark. It’ll probably find it’s own correct level somewhere between the two and stop using a drop. Treat that point on the stick as your new ‘Full’ Mark and see what happens. Probably time to have your TB’s off for a good scrub anyway. Pete | |
