I'm not a fan of the high pipe, Would the conical do as good a job ?

What is needed to get more torque you mentioned ? How much "more torque" is possible ?

These maps, Bill, simply deliver a pretty much flat torque curve from idle to around 7500 rpm, the rest is probably moot anyway. These maps do for the bike what the factory has never done and have been developed over quite a few years. no bullshit claims, just fat torque everywhere.
I have one of Beetle's maps, 1200 Sport, 2V, and can pull cleanly from 2000 rpm in 6th gear (approx 60 km/h) all the way to red line ( on mine that's 8400 ) - the problem is I start to run out of road at 200 km/h and the thought of a bluey tames me somewhat. Fuel consumption is usually less than 5.0 l/100 km, to boot. I know this is not an 8V but the principles are exactly the same.

No.

It'll never make as much torque as that Triumph monster you own. The way to get the best torque curve from the 8V is to slow down the exhaust. The easiest way is to increase the exhaust length, hence the Hi-Pipe.

I doubt enough to make you jealous. I run the mistral high/no dbk map on my Arrow conical and have been very happy for years. Just do good service. Set your valves, balance your TBs, load up a Beetle map, and enjoy a fine running GRiSO.

idles high when cold, low when warm. Goes like a cut cat with consistent, progressive acceleration, good all round fuel economy, does not back fire or pop (to me that's just pour fuelling or leaky exhaust). A guzzi can be vocal, throbbing but not offensive with a load of torque and smooth. My mk3 lemans was good.

I switched from the hi-pipe to the Arrow conical (Beetle's map of course), and absolutely love the character of the Arrow. There is a slightly more noticeable dip in the midrange, but (perhaps) a bit more up top. (Delivery is less linear overall, though very "fun".) I have no intention of going back to the hi-pipe. The sound is absolutely amazing, IMHO.
The only caveat is that the Arrow is a "slip" (interference) fit, and there appears to be variances in the size of the stock GRiSO collector--I made a simple shim from an aluminium can, and with a bit of ultra copper, it seals just fine without leaking. I believe one fellow here had the opposite problem. I suppose one more caveat, some have felt that the muffler is too loud in the 3-4k RPM area. (I don't, though the hi-pipe with dbk is certainly much quieter, and would likley be a better choice for frequent city travel/commuting.)

The Beetle map + Mistral High pipe is goodies for the old 1100 tractor as well. Next up, for me, would be a good suspension tune-up /overhaul and maybe some nicer levers, pazzos or other. if you want seriously more power, go buy an Aprilia or Ducati...or check out the German outfit that transplanted a 1400 engine to a GRiSO...

I've had a Beetle Map and Agostini HF Pipe on my 4V GRiSO for 5 years. Other than that rare Ipotheosis (or whatever it is called) I like the looks best. Not a fan of the high pipe look.
I've tried several combinations and alternative setups involving Intake Snorkel, DB reducer in and out, with Stock mid pipe and Agostini mid pipe.
Best setup for me that gives best power/torque particularly at midrange is with the Intake Snorkel in place, DB in, and Stock Mid Pipe. I will occasionally pull the DB reducer out, but it really robs from mid power, is too obnoxious, and too much popping on over run. The only benifit is a bit more power at the top end. When I swap the mid pipe,(with DB killer and intake snorkel in) there is a smaller drop in mid power, stronger pull up top, and adds a bit more metallic sharpness to the exhaust.
As Mark/Pete and others have said, you're not going to do anything to make substantially more power, but you can dial the bike in to maximize, smooth out, and optimize the motor and output to how you want to ride.
If I was tracking the bike, wanted to ride balls to the wall bouncing off the rev limiter and staying within 1K of redline all day, I may take out the intake snorkel, run the Agostini pipe and take out the DB killer, but thats not my deal.
OP, if you want this to have power like your R3, fugetaboutit............. Enjoy the GRiSO for what it is, a brilliant capable motorcycle with unparalleled character.

What do you pack of malcontents want? A map that makes the GRiSO go like stink? A map that doesn't pop on the overrun? Engine braking? You want it all?
