Subject: Check your air box hoses! Sun Oct 15, 2017 11:02 pm
After doing the rollerization on my GRiSO, I noticed that the hose connecting the stepper to the pipe on the left side of the airbox was off. There was no clamp on it for some reason, and no evidence of a clamp ever being used. I have no idea how long it had been off like that. I reattached it of course.
Yesterday I removed the small cover in the front part of the airbox where this tube and the one on the other side from the crankcase breather separator goes in. In with the oil on the bottom and sides was lots of nasty-looking dirt, with sand and small stones. From this area there is a straight shot to the air inlets to the throttle bodies!
With that tube off, any dirt flung up from the road can get into your engine pretty easily. The oil in there might trap a lot of it, but still: definitely something to be avoided!
So, you might want to check that your hoses (on both sides) at the front of the airbox are securely attached and clamped.

Same thing happens if the drain pipe is cracked - cut - dropped its plug. You should also check it, as an unpluged drain pipe will draw air from beneath the motor.

Omg, you mean the whole cover where the filter Element sits in? Thought there is another inspection cover under the battery or something like this....

Yep, you got to remove the battery and its rubber "box", to get to the cover of the area that all hoses are conected to the airbox

Right, I should have mentioned it’s the inspection cover under the battery. I didn’t know about that until I removed the tank for the purpose of checking the breather hoses. The amount of dirt and small stones in there was shocking, especially when you can see the intakes right there! Hope my motor didn’t eat any bad stuff.

Well, I'm curious what's the matter with mine.

You don't need to open that cover though, unless you're curious to see how clean it is. To check the hoses, just look at the connection pipes on the left and right sides of the airbox, you don't need to take anything apart.
