| hello, new member to your forum hoping to purchase a GRiSO. is it possible to tell the build date from the vin number? i am trying to avoid the flat tappet models and whilst an engine no (13524) and date of 04/12/2012 is stated as a cut off point there were probably machines prior to that date registered later.thanks terry | |

| There have been bikes found with VIN's built after the alleged changeover number that contain flatties. For a 2012 model, the only way to be sure is to pop a valve cover and have a look. | yes, I notice that for 2015 mg have added "trophy red" colour scheme so this I presume would have rollers. are there any other distinguishing changes to separate the years. | |

| Apart from the roller top end, paint and mapping they're all basically the same. From about 2010 they've all had the GRS8V-03 map. Oh, and from 2015 on they use the Cali14 sump which has both advantages and disadvantages.
All the Diavolo Rosso's are roller motors. | |

| It's shallower and slopes from front to rear. It also deletes the spacer sandwiched between the block and the sump meaning one less potential leak point. Another advantage is that the lubricant pump pick up is now incorporated in the bottom of the sump lowering the risk of exposure during hard acceleration but the 8V's, indeed none of the CARC bikes suffered from this problem that plagued the earlier V11 'Broad Sump' motors.
The down side is that the shallower sump moves the oil closer to the crank increasing windage and taxing the condensor system more than the earlier design.
