| When I come home from a ride, I park my bike on the driveway while I open the garage door. The driveway is pretty steep and requires the bike in gear, engine off, and stand down (obviously).
When I restart, I always get the oil can on restart, but only for a second.
Could I have a problem, or is it the angle of the pickup in the sump the problem child?
Smart Arse answers welcome, too...

Smart Arse answers welcome, too... OK, I'll take a swing or two. Why do you say "obviously" WRT side stand being down? Seriously, don't know your set-up with garage, but is a powered door out of the question, thus permitting a remote for opening the garage door and just riding in? OK, kind of an expensive "fix" for a momentary red light. Actually, while I type this -- which is evidence of how much thought went in to this! -- would you get the oil can icon if you just sat on it and let it idle where you now park it? I'll be curious what the real wrenches here have to say about your question. OK, back to reading Sisman's biography of Wordswoth and Coleridge, which I've been "reading" for months and almost always has me snoring before I get to a second page. Zzzzzz. Bill

| Seems funny it would do it on a start up after shut down on the slope , by that I mean after turning off and parking, the oil draining back to sump from the top end would have the sump fuller. Maybe with the engine running there is a form of pressure wave in the sump pushing the oil toward the pickup ? I've often wondered about uncovering the oil pickup on the GRiSO either under acceleration or long hard braking . Boggle Boggle Boggle | |

| Tony, have you ever had the sump spacer off? If not, now' the time. Weird oil pressure problems are sometimes caused by the gasket around the galleries blowing out.

| Would that be part 25, Flange Grey, 976083?
Assume there is other bits involved such as the gasket (Part 24, Gasket, GU01003651) which is probably the bit that needs changing?

| Found this...
barking like a seal
and...
methinks this was like it from new - I have never had the sump spacer off, nor are there bits in the bottom. Pete what say you?

| Sorry Tony, I'd missed your previous query. Perhaps I was in the air or jet lagged or sumtink? Anyway, that is exactly the sort of evidence I was looking for. Just so everyone else doesn't immediately panic, yes it does, (Obviously!) happen but it's rare. have you got a gasket? I'm pretty sure we have one in stock if you want me to get one to you?

| all sorted Pete, just back together for a shake down ride tomorrow. At least I found something - obviously a piece missing from assembly - slipped through the QA process, or Luigi was suffering from apres lunch issues. | |
