Erratic idle

Hi fellas, I've noticed my 08 1100 GRiSO has an idle glitch. When started from warm the rpm races up too high on idle for a few seconds before it settles down again to about 1100 rpm. This I could easily live with but today while out on a ride, after starting the bike from warm, the rpm was fluctuating up and down in a "hunting" kind of fashion from about 1200 to 1800 rpm. This went away later but I'd just rode through quite a heavy rain storm (gotta love our English weather) and therefor the bike was running quite cool. I'm guessing this problem is temperature related, any ideas please?

Nobody has tried to lower the idle speed by frigging about with the throttle stop screw have they?

Not that I'm aware of. It's the fact that it went all crazy today that concerns me, never done that before Up and down between 1200 and 1800 rpm for no good reason, annoying/embarrassing if nothing else. My old 8v used to tick over a treat even if it did sound like a cement mixer full of rusty spanners.

I get similar symptoms occasionally on my 2008 1100.
I think the temporary high idle at startup might be related to the initial enrichening parameter (20-30 sec ??) in the map. As you say, that passes quickly and is easy to manage (plus, in this part of Florida everyone assumes its typical 'look-at-me I'm a Harley Wanker' noise).

I get the high idle when the bike gets really warm, and I think its related to the damn Stepper Motor and temperature.
I've put a valve (actually a petcock) in the air hose leading to it (just behind the LH throttle body). Closing that brings the idle under control. Have to remember to open it before next starting the bike though, as it makes it harder....

Also when was the last time you cleaned your throttle bodies?
