| Subject: left hand cam chain tensioner missing ? HELP ! Thu Apr 07, 2016 12:34 pm | |
| Ok guys, I was out riding on Tuesday next thing I know theres oil everywhere ! the left hand cam chain tensioner cap has come off !! the engine still running fine no rattles i have found it stuck in the throttle linkage now I figured the plunger should be under it looking at the parts diagram BUT I have pulled the cam cover and I am pretty sure the plunger operates on the lower guide from the other side so it would go in before the guides and the cap is just a cap if you know how it all works please let me know I can just put the cap back on and enjoy myself this weekend ???, jon. | |

| Do you mean the 6mm dome headed Allen screw that goes into the back of the left cylinder cam chain tunnel? If so you're golden. Just pop it back in with a sealing washer and go.
If you mean the 24mm cap on the inside of the valley? Lon the LH cylinder this is also just a plug for the hole used to bore the tensioner plunger seat in the other side of the cylinder. This too can be replaced easily but use a sealing washer on it or it will leak.
Reading your post again I think the second option is most likely.

| Hi Pete, Many thanks for the reply I should have been clearer it was the 24mm cap took me ages to realize why the 2 cylinders are different I then realized the plunger has to work on the slack side of the chain anyway its got locktight on it now !, the engine was rollerized just before I got it so I guess it was removed then Ive done about 8000 miles on it so why it came undone now is a mystery may bee the heating & cooling has annealed the washer & crushed it slightly who knows ?? panik over any way, many thanks again, Jon. | |

| Hmmm. It doesn't need to come off for rollerising am more likely it was just done up by some limp wristed feeb at the factory when assembled.
