| Thanks for the opportunity to be a member,I actually own a 1200 sport, which might cause a slight conflict.I was deciding to purchase either a new GRiSO or a sport but the GRiSO did not have the alloy wheels.i reside on the Nsw central coast and have ridden motorcycles for 45 years. The Guzzi is a great bike. | |

| Thanks for the welcome,I nearly did not buy my new( now 12 mths old) as the first test ride had to be postponed due to an enormous cloud of smoke spewing out of the exhaust. The dealer apologised and said he had never seen this happen before. There was no letting up,like someone doing a huge burn out! | |

| Here is one more Welcome...after staying here awhile, you just might get the urge to add that GRiSO to your stable. | |

| Welcome to the forum. Smoke doesn't sound good. Most odd. Did the dealer let you know what the problem was? | |

| Not wishing to scaremonger o be the bearer of bad tidings but the 1200 Sport-8V's seem to be even more prone to destroying their tappets in short order than other models. While it might be a bit premature to suggest pulling a camber at the first service certainly by 5,000kms I'd be going in for a looksee and I'd bet a box full of beehives there will be damage evident.
Catch it nice and early and it'll all be taken care of under warranty. Leave it and it could cost you your engine.

| Thanks to Sven, MaIG, Street and Northern Producer for your welcomes and to Pete Roper for your advice. Regarding what caused the smoke,I did ask the dealer a few weeks later and he did not know. Even after a few months later no word on the cause. I have had the problem of having no speedo, red light and service light on, spread over 3 months with the dealer replacing front wheel sensor, rear sensor and ECU on 3 separate occasions.Has been a real concern.
I have spent some time on the web looking for answers to my electrical problems and in doing so have come across pete ropers intense investigation of the flat tappet problems. I was concerned about this but not living in a cold wet climate and virtually no failures of the later bikes having dlc tappets,I thought it would be ok.
BUT I have only just found the more recent entries in the web.Things have changed completely. I have approx 6k kms and had decided to check them. Thanks Pete you have made up my mind to check them,I was just wondering if the damage would have started at 6000 KILOMETRES. | |

| Pete, I would love to do that, but would that be allowed as I purchased the bike from the local dealer(80 odd kms away).I feel that this dealer hasn,t a great deal of experience and may not realise what needs to be done.I am very fussy about caring for my bikes ,although not a fan of electronics and abs brakes. | |

| No, I am contraturally obliged to fix Guzzis under warranty. If you treat me like a piece of shit you'll find me 'Busy' for at least two years, (The period of the warranty.). If you listen to me and accept I'm not trying to shill you it might be very advantageous to you in terms of damage and repairs to your bike and to me as I can fix shit cheaply, for you, before your bike becomes a turd.
I have plenty of work waiting that pays money. I'm just lucky I can be generous with time.

| Dear Pete, I will be bringing my bike to you on a trailer. I want to rollerize it no matter what. I know that parts take a while to arrive, so unless you carry the kit for this bike, would it be better to wait or also do you have room to store the bike for this time. Do you need a deposit? | |

| Why? It's brand new! Ride it up. Call me (On Monday!) and we can discuss it. At the moment I don't have space for it.

| And it's a nice ride to Bungendore, on the back roads (lots of choice from the Central Coast). A bonus, especially the return trip. | |
