I just read those threads. OMG. Despite meeting the very definition of a 'troll', that moron is now being praised.
While this result is very good news for Don, I wonder whether Thousand Oaks will now be inundated with fuqqed flatties, all expecting the same treatment? And what will happen is every asshole and his dog will turn up screaming at dealers for their 'Free Shit' and a lot of shops will just say they've inspected and things are fine or they will drop Guzzi because they re going to be well out of pocket because Piaggio don't pay anywhere near the required time. On top of that bikes with severe wear will do their bottom ends and the dealers will be expected to eat the rebuild because 'They worked on it so it's their fault'. Instead of taking a 'Slowly, gently catchee monkey' approach it will turn into a clusterfuck and next thin there will be more howling and complaints about the lack of dealers and poor service. If ever there was a c*nt who needed taking out the back for a good kicking it's that idiot and his trolling spawn 'Cool Runnings'. I don't doubt I'll soon be fielding calls from people telling me I have to fix their bikes for nix. Not happening. Pete

| Most of the people who's company I enjoyed have pulled the pin. It seems to have been taken over by exactly the sort of needy, whining, inadequate assholes that Piaggio seems to be targeting for their horrible 'Cruiser' and Hipster Wannabee products. Methinks I feel a long sabbatical coming on. I have no desire to be associated with 'Lifestyle' accessories or the sort of shallow wankers who aspire to them.

| A sabbatical is probably a good idea this time of year. There's just too much trolling and not enough riding north of the equator. I have many doubts about whether or not half those guys even turn a wrench, but they sure have their irrevocable expert opinions. I guess if they read enough posts by others, they are qualified to express themselves whether they have ever taken off a valve cover or not. It's a shame, really. All these forums could be a valuable resource, but the filters required to get to pertinent information are beginning to require a quantum formula of some sort. Losing patience is easy. | |

| The idiot mentioned in this thread has been on my ignore list for a while. Plus a few others. Still, I go there and keep reading the whiney posts. It's like a bad car crash. You know it's wrong. | I think that particular idiot is one who got deep-sixed by Mike a year or so ago. Same MO, same state. New name and ISP I'm guessing.
One more piece of idiocy and I'm going to delete my account. I don't have enough life left to waste trying to educate the unteachable.

| Yay me, new roller tappets and a bike that is smoooooother than ever, pulls like a school boy (at least on the short test run I did) best map ever, I so owe Beetle some liquid amber when I meet him, proper stuff none of that xxxx stuff they serve in the tropics.
I got to meet Pete and Mr Pete (a charming lady that in no way resemble Beelzebub), got to watch Pete weave his magic all while answering my silly questions and finally spent an excellent evening lubricating internally in the Royal Hotel with genuinely bonza people.
Thanks for all the hard work Pete!

I actually wondered if the shop didn't just absorb the labor in Don's case. Don mentioned they appreciated the guidance provided by Pete's video, so maybe they took the high road and just chalked it up to the cost of learning the brand. Of course, I wasn't there so have no clue.

| Alex was pretty clear in stating that he convinced Piaggio to cover the labor. I did get the impression that they haven't done many of these. I think it was the first for Brian, the tech who did mine. But he was very enthusiastic about having the opportunity to learn by doing. He has a great attitude and it seems to me he did an excellent job. Get in there John before anything in the equation has a chance to change. There is no other dealer in So Cal who will work to get you this result. Pro-Italia's current approach is to deny even knowing about the problem. I suspect they are too busy with Ducatis to be bothered. | |

| I agree with Tenni...anyone lucky enough to have a good dealer nearby should take full advantage of it. Things can change quickly... I still think they ate the cost of labor since in that case it only was about 20 minutes or so, maybe half an hour for untrained Pros. | |

Ok, I'll head over. Mine needs a C kit, though, so much more time involved.

| I managed, in spite of my crappy laptop to post some photos of my tappets and cam at 25k km (just in time I think!!) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I only had a look at the left side to learn all I needed to know, bike wont be used until Roller Kits are fitted. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The servicing was always done well ahead of the recommended service interval and using only the correct oil and filter [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Made an appointment to get my tappets inspected next Wednesday by Thousand Oaks Powersports (plus normal maintenance). My mileage is at 5,400 in the same So Cal climate as Don, so this will add another data point.
Was also impressed with the folks at the shop, who promised to check one (right) side first, email me photos, and then move on from there.
BTW, we also discussed whether an oil analysis by a lab would detect Tappet problems without dismantling. They said they thought it would be inconclusive and a manual inspection was the way to go.

Good move to get them checked, I'm surprised that they said they would do the right side unless they are going to check both sides (which is the best option) as they have to remove the tank for the right.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll suggest checking left side first when I drop it off. And yes, if we see no damage on the first side, the second side will then be checked.

| On the other hand, the right side has an actual chain tensioner release, so there is no way to harm/break the chain guide rail. Mine had the right side more worn out and showed a lot more damage than the left one. But better have both sides checked. | |

| Well mine are showing damage at only 5,500. Piaggio is being contacted to see if they'll cover labor, which is estimated at $1,300 due to my needing the "c" kit. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |
