GRiSO very sick! Empty
PostSubject: GRiSO very sick!   GRiSO very sick! Icon_minitime1Tue Oct 27, 2015 10:51 pm

Hi everyone, new to your club, but I'm hoping someone out there can throw a life line.
I'm owner of a GRiSO since  March 2006, 83000 kms, last service had in August 2015.Months Previously to the service an occasional triangle warning would appear & Service below dash, I assumed it was due for service though it hadn't reached recommended kms for service. After I've had the GRiSO serviced a week after  got the same warning on dashboard: service & triangle, tried to clear it through resetting service & faults  only memo dshb 7,the familiar oil sensor fault. So after several weeks on & off warnings at random I rode to work parked in the morning, in the afternoon hopped on took the GRiSO around the block, parked, finished work hopped on the bike turn ignition key press button engine cranks over but won't fire up!
Now it's over a month I & a very helpful friend have been over every connection through the harness:

No open circuits
No bad earth
Communicating successfully with ECU through Guzzidiag.
Disabled & discconected PCV just in case it was the problem, still same result engine cranking but not firing.
Checked fuel line ,pump, air sensor, reset Tps, injectors all good. Relays ok.
Starter motor ok
Spark plugs ok
Battery ok
Speed sensor ok
Back to Guzzidiag all parameters are ok, on screen all is good to go!
Turn key on & same result :error PO105.(on Guzzidiag interface)
On dashboard shows active ecu 54 active: instrument panel fault.
So there is an anomaly the Ecu has picked up, is the dashboard faulty? How can I be sure before spending $1200/1300 for a new dashboard.
Any brainiacs out there!?
Haven't had any problems with this bike for 10 yrs so I'm not pissed off, just want to hear that growl again.
Thanks for any future help Surprised
Gio

Sounds like it may have done its dashboard but what is actually happening when you turn on the dash. Does it do its sweep etc?

Also are you sure you're getting spark? Are the injectors firing?

Also I'd strongly suggest not just disconnecting the PC but shit-canning it. At least totally remove it and reinstall all the original gear. Once you start hacking into looms to fit widgets you're asking for problems. If it was throwing up service errors it's almost certainly because whatever the PC was doing the ECU and Dash we're seeing it as a fault.

Hi peter, when key is turned on ecu does all the checks then it doesn't allow for firing up.
Hence there is no spark on plugs.
Have had PCV for 2 yrs no problems,
However I did disconnect & set up to original as mentioned in my post.

Pull the ECU and check the pins for corrosion. Same for the instruments. Check the earth connection is good on the ECU.

Similar thing happened to a friends 1100 GRiSO I borrowed last year.
As Mark suggested pull out the ecu and check the connectors, on my mates the connectors were full of water and 3 of the prongs had broken off.
Bought a used ecu from a ducati cleaned the connectors and reassembled then loaded the correct map and away it went.

Hi there Mark111 & Beetle, Ecu & connectors are fine. As posted I can communicate with guzzidiag cables, all pins are good no trace of corrosion on either dashboard/ecu.
Im lucky to have a friend with a excellent knowledge of transistor, boards & eprom. If that's the case there is very little luck in repairing it. You must have the right software to download & I can't see MG emailing that over!

Any possibility (crank angle?) sensor can be faulty without a fault code showing?

So sparkplugs do not fire?, and no fuel comming out of injectores? did you try spark and injector test from guzzidiag? with that put sparkplug on headcover so it has ground and you can see it.

If no sparks, see if you have 12volt + on one side of the coil when you try to start. Also before starting, guzzidiag should show tart possible in right column.

We have tested crankshaft sensor last night(thanks Gorilla!) it reads 516 Ohms,
Taken it completely off placed on the bench & attempt all sorts of reading. Result nada! Nothing! Zip! Giggled it, used some magnets the damm unit seems lifeless
So I'm getting one in the mail as I type.
Will have to be patient.
Thanks again Gio

Hi Pauldaytona, yep have done the sparkplug test no spark. Injectors are working. Guzzidiag interface is showing possible start. Thanks for the tip.

Phase sensor should throw a code. So far the only code you're getting is dashboard.

Strange, coil and injectors have all two wires, one side the rosso/brown wire, should measure 12 volt.
They are all connected, so all or now should have 12 volt. The 12 volt comes over the main injection relais, from fuse C.

Check if all have +12 volt. That might be only there during starting. (and if bike runs)

The other side of each goes straight to the ecu, and gets ground there if it should fire.

The tests that guzzidiag does are initiated from the ecu, so no sensor is in between.

Ground connection wire to ecu is solid?

So I tried to post a description of how I got to getting GRiSO back on the road, some how it's not showing up in the forum. So here I go once more. Yes crankshaft sensor failed, dashboard error54 gone. I've taken it for a 35 km ride no problems.... Well I still have service & red triangle display on dashboard, tried disconnecting battery, reset service, clear errors, but, there is a new Ecu error: 13?!? What the ..!!!!
Guzzidiag shows everything is in order. Has anyone ever had this ecu13?
I'm going to take it to a guzzi dealer( that has a diagnostic & software)hoping they can rectify and clear this anomally.
Any one any ideas??
Thanks again Gio

My guess is that it's most likely an issue being triggered by the loom having been hacked in to to fit the wretched PCV. There is also the issue of service. Who serviced it?

Hi Pete, yeh I suppose that couldbe the issue.I'm no mechanic my knowledge is limited but ain't afraid to try. As I posted on previously I will take it down to Brisbane & I hope they can clear & reset my rpm tachometer to zero. Last service was with Tom Newell. I was experiencing the symptoms prior to the service. No matter what I still the GRiSO, it's the first time in 10 yrs ever had issues.
I'll post a few photos soon.
Thanks gio

I had a Stelvio in last week that Tommy had 'Balanced the throttle bodies' on. To get them balanced correctly required a full three turns of the bell crank screw to get them close again. Then I found out that the recommended 'FI expert' the owner had been sent to had tried to lower the idle by winding out the throttle stop screw. Luckily the one on the RH throttle body hadn't been fucked with so I was able to recalibrate them *Reasonably* without too much effort.

Be very careful who you deal with in Southern Qld. Bloke I trust not to fuck stuff up is Sean who used to work for both Brisbane and Gold Coast Aprilia. They stiffed him on pay and he's gone freelance.
