Subject: Factory Tune-up ' to do' list? Sun Oct 18, 2015 11:36 am
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend in your respective corners of the world!
I'm taking my 2012 GRiSO in for it's second service (7k on the odo.) and I'm wondering what specific things I should have them look at/adjust?
I'm rollerless, so I'm going to have them check the tappets, and might even see if they will ask Piaggio about covering the install.
Either way, free or not, I probably will get them to swap it out just for peace of mind.
I've been putting off putting one of beetle's maps on my bike, since I know the TB and TPS should be sorted out.
Are there any other specific things I should ask them to work on during the tune-up? I want to walk into the repair shop knowing
what I want done and why and making sure they realize I'm serious about the performance of the bike. Otherwise I'm worried I may just
get the same cookie cutter tune-up they offer to everyone. Cheers in advance for any advice!

Now that my warranty has expired I'm open to suggestions if you have a place in mind?
Otherwise I'm taking it to Pacific Motorsport out in Richmond.

Not a big fan of Pacific Motorsport. I find them really expensive for what you get. They also hung me out with a warranty issue.I do the vast majority of work on my own bike,if I get in over my head alittle its always Cypress Motorbike to the rescue.Darcy or Dave are E Zee to talk to and they will not upsell you. They have the cables to reset TPS and autolearn, also the best dyno in the in the GVRD.If you are thinking about remapping your bike and again a map from Mark is the way to go, Cypress has the know how. They are the best bang for your buck,in my opinion.

All the oils, engine 10w60 fully synthetic plus filter, gearbox and final drive oil
And if not this service definitely the next one Grease the Swingarm and linkage bearings.
If break fluid is getting dark I'd change it but probably be ok until the next service,
Good luck

Good to know, zathruss. I never did get a very good feeling from the service dept. when I went in. I'm afraid to ask what warranty they hung you out to dry for? I'm hoping they may cover the rollerization on my 2012 , but maybe I'm dreaming. Have to find that out first, though, then I'm knocking on Cypress' door. And thanks, Guzzi Cat, that's what I will get the next shop to look at for sure.

Given the fact that your bike is a flat tappet motor I would try to rack up at least 20,000 km in the warranty period and then pay to have the tappets inspected just prior to the expiry of the warranty.
Piaggio will not, under any circumstances, supply a kit pre-emptively, don't even waste yer breath.
Other than that the only thing I suggest over and above what is in the service schedule is re-packing the swingarm bearings and shock linkage bearings.

Valley Moto (or now called "Chilliwack Motorcycles") has a VERY good reputation. Very nice, personal expert-service.

Bioman I would agree with you,Vally Moto has a good rep.One major setback if you live in Van is the PITA if the bike is leftovernight.Although a nice ride none the less.

Yeah, I've actually been out there with 1151 before. That's where he bought his bike. Guy seemed solid and non-pushy, it's just the distance that makes it a chore. And again, cheers everyone for all the input on the upcoming tune-up.

Isn't the fork oil supposed to be changed at this service?

Yes but why would you? The Showa factory doesn't have a special section where they assemble forks for Guzzi in a sandbox!
Since the stock set up is pretty woeful I'd wait a bit longer and then take the forks to a suspension specialist. Get the oil changed at the same time you get the suspension fixed.

I agree with you, fork oil and seals shouldn't be sacked at 6,000 miles. My paranoia (people ARE following me) is that since my bike is under warrantee, if I had a fork problem and couldn't show that I had the forks serviced at the proper time, they would blow me off. Also, the news that the forks are woeful is new to me, this bike handles better than anything I have owned so far! The idea that it could be better boggles my mind!
