PostSubject: Hi Almost new guy   Hi Almost new guy Icon_minitime1Tue Jul 07, 2015 2:38 am

I'm Steve.  I am not an owner of a GRiSO yet.  I currently run a BMW R1200S that I've had for three years, a sorted BMW R1100S for five years before that and I also ran a very modded Harley XR1200 last year before selling it as it wasn't quite what I was after. I always had IL4's before those but I'm definitely a twin guy now.  I think a GRiSO 'would' be just what I'm after however.  I'm hoping it has the upright attitude of the Harley with the sophistication of the BMW.  I haven't ridden a GRiSO yet but plan to get a ride in the next few weeks.

Just in case anyone isn't aware of the XR (There aren't many around) and want to know where I'm coming from, this was mine

Hi Steve, and welcome to the Ghetto. Cool

Agree that the XR is a rare sight over here. I read a couple of comparisons between the two after I had already fallen for the GRiSO [ which is the first large cc twin I have owned ]

Hope you get a decent amount of time on the GRiSO test ride to see how you feel. Keep us posted!!!

All the best, Ian/Blue.

Welcome, Steve! Interesting fact about the HD XR1200...the first year production was not available in the USA which pissed off a lot of HD enthusiasts here. Surprised the bike might not have sold well in your part of the world.

Hi, Yes I was aware of that. Apparently making it Europe only did not go down well with Statesiders. However, I don't think traditional Harley fans are fans of the XR.

Hi Steve.
I'm sure that once you've tried a GRiSO you'll be hooked!

You are correct, Steve.  The Europe only introduction did not go down well with us.  I remember attending the International Motorcycle Show in Cleveland, Ohio that year and H-D had the audacity to bring an XR1200 to the show.  They took a lot of "heat" from attendees that had an interest in the bike, but were told they couldn't order one.  A factory representative told me at the time the bike was designed to be marketed to the non-traditionalist in hopes of drawing a wider interest in their product offerings.  I guess they fumbled the ball all around because the bike just wasn't a big hit here either...but then again the marketing was horrible.  Maybe with the new top management at H-D, they will figure it out before Polaris hands them their lunch with the new Indian line.

Welcome Steve,

Thought I would post this for you in the event that you have not already seen it. You do sit upright on the GRiSO but there is a little stretch to the bars as many have mentioned. Quite comfortable overall and for longer trips it is not bad.

Btw- I own a 2012 tenni and love it! It is apparently not the fastest color for the bike but it sure does look sweet and gets an awful lot of compliments. I highly recommend it. Hope you enjoy your test ride and can get your hands on a nice greenie in short order. alien

Thanks, I don't think I'd seen that review. My XR had low and wide flat tracker bars instead of the standard 'semi' cowhorns so what with that and the semi racer crouch of the BMW the GRiSO should turn out perfect.
