| Speedo only shows zero. Odo doesn't change. Red warning triangle light is on. LCD display says "Service".
I've read this is the Speedo sensor on the rear wheel gone , probably water ingress. Any thoughts, will a good splosh of WD 40 sort it ? Ta !

| Speedo sensor on bevelbox was prone to failing due to water intrusion. You mentioned in your other post that you had recently spent considerable time cleaning the bike. Did you wash it? Anyway, my first move would be to remove and examine the sensor and dry it out well with a hair drier. After this it can be re-sealed using silicone. Pay particular attention to where the cable enters the pick-up. If that fails buy a new one, (New ones are better made.).
WRT stalling on start up? Find out what map it has installed. If its a comparatively early bike, (Its an '09 isn't it?) it may still have the GRS8V01 or 02 map in, both of these were pretty ordinary but can be overwritten with Navigator, PADS or even Axone with the 68S map. If this fails to fix it then, (providing the machine is mechanically sound.) there are other mapping alternatives like Rexxer or Guzzidiag that can be used to reflash the ECU with alternative mappings. The 68S is a great improvement over the early maps though.

| Not really. It was about that time that the GRS8V03 map came out. Only way to check is to plug in a scan tool.
Also it is VERY important that the bike actually be tuned properly. First things to check a are the throttle stop screw on the LH throttle body. This should be sealed with paint and NOT disturbed, ever! Then check the air bleed screws. Only one of them should be open. Both closed may be OK but both open definitely isn't. If both of them are open get it tuned properly. It'll make a world of difference.

| Thanks Pete. I know a guy who was head spanner man for Aprilia who worked on my Futura and a mate's Colin Edwards replica Mille , I may get him to have a good look at it. Cheers. | |

| Well...the dealer sent my issue to the MG helpdesk , and they came back with....Speedo Sensor failure :-) A new one is on order, but the Italian couriers are on strike, and then the dealer will be closed from Dec 24th to Jan 2nd, so it looks like my Garmin Zumo will be the speedo for the near future. Suppose any riding I do will be free miles, and the Odo is stuck as well ;-)

| I acquired the GRiSO only last spring (2013), second hand. It's built in June 2009, low mileage. The speedo (and odo) failed during first ride in rain last summer. Tried to have it fixed by the remedy in Pete's first reply above during the winter, but apparently not successfully.
So...... do I try again to dry out and seal the sensor & cable, or should I just go ahead and change the sensor? Anybody know what sort of costs we are talking about?

There is a pictorial guide to resealing the sensor on the web somewhere, I cant remember where I saw it. Had the same problem with my 4V GRiSO. Keep the old sensor as a spare for yourself or to lend out.

| Pete, slo-mo, Svein; thanks for replies I take it the new sensor fixes this problem then. Svein, did you have to do the change on your bike?
cheers, Per | |

| The early ones were shit and allowed water in. The later ones are better although I've still had one or two give problems. Generally though, yes, it fixes it. Its a very easy swap.

| No need for changing it yet, no failure even though the bike is a 2008. Did the silicone trick this spring.

| My bike got the zero speed speedo problem, but I live in California, it's dry as a bone here! Only have 300 miles on the bike so off to the dealer under warranty. | |

Only have 300 miles on the bike so off to the dealer under warranty. My speedo will fail me in the Mojave Desert. When I do a shakedown ride after a wash. But it fails Every Time it gets wet. DM

| Well now, it seems that my speedo fails ONLY ON THE FIRST WET TRIP OF THE SEASON! And not during subsequent wet rides.... Doesn't make sense to me??? Anyway, unless anyone comes up with a brighter idea I'll probably change the sensor this winter.
