Pork Chopectomy Empty

Thinking about removing the pork chop side plates so I can unbolt the cheap plastic bling from the straight through hole.
Does the chop just bolt on or does it hold up anything important (other than me)?
Its sort of ugly and I would like to support the bike through the hole without breaking the plastic doodad.

The PC's support the gear lever and master cylinder. I'm sure you could fabricate something to perform that function easily enough though. Held on by 4 bolts a side.

Thanks!
